About Dr. Ashok Kumar

Dr. Ashok Kumar is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Science (Chemistry) at Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Rajkiya Engineering College Pratapgarh. He was awarded the Dr. D. S. Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellowship and served in this role from 21/09/2021 to 20/09/2024. He previously worked as Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty) in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Allahabad from 01/08/2019 to 20/09/2021. He completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi during 2013-2018 under the supervision of Dr. Rajesh Kumar. His doctoral research focused on solution graft copolymerization of vinyl monomers onto natural polysaccharides and their applications. He completed his M.Sc. in Chemistry from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur during 2010-2012 and his B.Sc. from the same university during 2007-2010. His research interests include graft copolymers, polymeric nanoparticles, initiators, and the characterization of polymers using modern analytical techniques.

EXPERIENCE IN INSTRUMENTATION AND ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES


  • Characterization and study of polymer properties by NMR, IR, TGA/DTA, DSC, SEM, UV, etc.
  • Interpretation of 1H and 13C NMR signals including 2D NMR, IR, TGA/DTG, UV-Vis, and cyclic voltammetry.
  • Microscopic techniques: SEM, TEM, AFM, DLS, fluorescence, and structure determination by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
  • Experience with DMol3, Gaussian 09, HyperChem, ChemOffice, Microcal Origin, EndNote, and Adobe Photoshop CS3.

RESEARCH INTERESTS


  • Synthesis of graft copolymer, polymeric nanoparticles, and new initiators by ATRP and FRP methods.
  • Study of fluorescence, biodegradability, antibacterial and antioxidant activity.
  • Metal binding capacity, metal detection, and thermal degradation studies.
